Anoop C Patil is a graduate of the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal, where he completed his M.Tech degree in VLSI Design (2011). Previously, he received his B.E. degree from Visvesvaraya Technological University in Electronics and Communications Engineering (2009). During his graduate studies, he was a graduate intern in Slow light project at Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland in 2010; which was undertaken as a part of MoU between Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, NITK Surathkal and DCU Dublin. He is the recipient of the Gayathri Devi Award for academic excellence during his matriculation studies. He has worked as Elect. Design Engineer - Digital in Cypress Semiconductor Technology Private Ltd., India Design Center, Bangalore from July 2011 to December 2012 before taking up PhD Studies at National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. He is currently pursuing his PhD under the supervision of Prof Nitish Thakor and Prof Yen Shih Cheng. Anoop's research interests include Neuro-prosthesis, Peripheral Nerve Recording and Analog and Digital Design.
Research Project: Electrodes represent the interface between biological structure of the nervous system and the interpretation subsystem within neural prostheses system . Electrodes can be used to record electrical signals from the nerves and also can be used for stimulation wherein they functionally excite nerves and muscles by electrical stimulation. The primary focus of my research work would be on understanding the requirements for electrodes for recording within neural prostheses framework and defining/addressing the issues with the current versions of the electrodes and realizing them from an engineering aspect.
